MPC-100 Epoxy Review: The Floor Coating Now Called EF-100
MPC-100 is a two-component, 100%-solids, self-leveling epoxy floor coating originally sold by Master Protective Coatings. The current product relationship is unusually important: Latux now lists Everflow EF-100 as formerly MPC-100. Black remains one of several pre-tinted color choices, not a separate casting-resin formula.
This is a research-based review. We have not installed or personally tested MPC-100 or EF-100. The assessment is based on the current Latux product page, the current documentation index, and the manufacturer-issued MPC-100 technical data sheet.
Quick Verdict
MPC-100 belongs in the flooring and high-build coating category. It is not a craft resin, deep-pour casting resin, or ordinary clear tabletop flood coat. Its 2:1 volume ratio, short working window, mechanical concrete-preparation requirement, and coverage tied to film thickness make it closer to a professional floor system than a beginner craft kit.
The current EF-100 successor appears well documented and is still offered in black, clear, white, beige, light gray, and medium gray. It is a plausible base or wear coat for correctly prepared concrete, but the preparation, moisture conditions, batch size, and cure schedule leave little room for improvisation. First-time installers should not confuse “self-leveling” with “self-preparing.”
MPC-100, Everflow, and EF-100: What Changed?
The current Latux technical-document library labels EF-100 as “formerly MPC-100.” The live product is sold as Everflow EF-100, while older technical documents and marketplace listings use Master Protective Coatings MPC-100.
That is a product-name and branding transition, not evidence that black MPC-100 was a distinct resin type. The current EF-100 page lists black as one color option within the same two-part floor-coating system.
Because published values have changed across document revisions, installers should use the technical sheet supplied for the exact product and lot they buy. This review uses the current EF-100 page for current availability and current performance data, and the MPC-100 TDS to explain the historical product.
What Kind of Epoxy Is It?
MPC-100 is described as a cycloaliphatic, self-leveling, high-build epoxy for prepared concrete or an existing compatible epoxy coating. Documented roles include:
- Protective floor coating
- High-build primer or base coat
- Wear coat
- Binder for patching or resurfacing
- Residential, commercial, and industrial floor systems
The intended applications include garages, warehouses, hangars, showrooms, stores, offices, schools, and other prepared concrete floors. Although older sales copy sometimes mentioned countertops, the formal technical positioning is primarily flooring and protective coating.

Coverage is not one universal number. A thin primer coat covers more area than a high-build wear coat, and actual consumption changes with slab profile, porosity, waste, and application method.
What Comes in the Kit?
The three-gallon system contains two gallons of Part A resin and one gallon of Part B hardener, pre-proportioned for the 2:1 volume ratio. The current product page does not describe the kit as including rollers, spike shoes, mixing tools, or a grinder.
That corrects a major problem in the historical review, which claimed unverified accessories such as gloves, mixing containers, stir sticks, and a separate self-leveling agent. Self-leveling describes the mixed coating’s behavior; it is not listed as a separate bottle in the current kit.
Surface Preparation Is the Deciding Factor
The TDS requires sound, clean, dry concrete and mechanical preparation to an ICRI CSP-2 profile. That normally means diamond grinding, not merely sweeping or acid washing. Existing contaminants, sealers, weak laitance, or an incompatible coating can undermine adhesion.
The historical MPC-100 instructions also warn about slab moisture and hydrostatic pressure. A coating over concrete without an appropriate moisture-control strategy can delaminate even if mixing and rolling were done correctly.
Before starting, verify:
- Concrete age, strength, and condition
- Moisture and vapor-emission conditions
- Dew point and condensation risk
- Required profile and repair work
- Compatibility with any existing coating
- Whether the system requires a separate moisture-vapor primer or topcoat
Mixing and Application Constraints
Parts A and B are mixed 2:1 by volume. The current page lists about 30 minutes of working time at 70 degrees F and 50% relative humidity. A large mixed mass can heat and react faster than a small sample, so the entire floor, crew, tools, and exit path should be planned before combining the components.
The documented application method is to pour the mixed material, spread it with a rubber squeegee, and back-roll with a 10 mm nap roller. The TDS should control exact mixing time, environmental limits, film thickness, and recoat preparation.
The Black Floor Epoxy Option
Black is supported as a current pre-tinted EF-100 option. That makes terms such as “MPC-100 black epoxy” and “black floor epoxy” relevant secondary intent, but color does not change the product class: it remains a prepared-concrete floor coating.
Dark, glossy floors can make dust, scratches, surface waviness, and application defects visually conspicuous. Color choice also does not replace a compatible topcoat where the project requires greater UV stability, a different slip profile, or a particular chemical-resistance system.
Strengths
Clear Product Classification
The manufacturer documents this as a floor-coating system with defined film builds, preparation, and cure stages. That is much more useful than generic “works on everything” resin copy.
Multiple Roles in a Floor System
EF-100 can serve as a primer, base, wear coat, or patching binder when the complete system and substrate conditions support that use.

Limitations
Demanding Preparation
Diamond grinding, moisture evaluation, repair work, dust control, and careful film-thickness planning make this more involved than a consumer paint kit.
Short Working Window
Approximately 30 minutes is not much time for mixing, transporting, spreading, and back-rolling a batch. Warm conditions and large masses can further reduce practical handling time.
Epoxy Is Not Automatically UV Stable
The historical MPC-100 TDS warns that UV exposure can discolor the surface. Where sunlight exposure matters, obtain the manufacturer’s current topcoat recommendation rather than relying on an unsupported “non-yellowing” claim.
Document Revisions Differ
Older MPC-100 sheets and the current EF-100 page do not report every value identically. That reinforces the need to use the current documents supplied with the purchased system, not a number copied from an old review.
DIY or Professional Product?
An experienced DIY installer with the right surface-preparation equipment, moisture information, application tools, and crew may be able to use EF-100 successfully. It is nevertheless a professional-style coating system. A first-time user who cannot profile the slab or complete a mixed batch promptly should consider professional installation or a system designed around their actual skill and equipment.
Safety Considerations
The historical TDS says both components require consultation of the SDS. CDC/NIOSH likewise recommends reading the label and SDS, maximizing ventilation, and selecting gloves and eye protection appropriate to the exact epoxy components.
Do not use odor as a safety gauge. Avoid skin and eye contact, protect others from the work zone, and plan cleanup before mixing. Grinding concrete also creates a separate dust-control hazard that requires suitable equipment and procedures.
Final Assessment
MPC-100 was and EF-100 remains a high-build epoxy floor coating. Its strongest attributes are a defined 2:1 system, film-build-specific coverage, multiple pre-tinted colors including black, and current manufacturer documentation. Its largest practical demands are concrete preparation, moisture control, a short work window, and disciplined application.
The rename is material but not disqualifying: buyers searching for Master Protective Coatings MPC-100 should now evaluate Everflow EF-100 and confirm the current TDS for the exact system they purchase.
